Forensic Services

In light of the lack of maintenance to infrastructure in South Africa and internationally, LNW has seen an increase in the demand for forensic services. The following forensic projects were completed by LNW:

  • Structural Assessments and Analysis on the 609 Import Hopper, Conveyor Transfer Tower, Liebherr Cranes and Krupp Shiploader for Transnet Port Terminals.
  • Inspection of Structures at the Bloemfontein and Saldanha Quarries for LaFarge.
  • Structural Assessment on all structures at the Port of Richards Bay for Transnet Port Terminals.
  • Ultrasonic scanning of a concrete bridge in Tanzania.
  • Structural inspection of coarse slag silo at Richards Bay Minerals.
  • Blasting survey and monitoring of homesteads and structures for Richards Bay Minerals.
  • Inspection of Vandyksdrift Colliery silos.
  • Structural Audit at Glencore Lydenburg.
  • Assessment of ground and airborne vibrations at Richards Bay Minerals.
  • Vibration seismograph testing at The Pearls in Umhlanga during Phase 3 piling installation.

LNW has over the years acquired all the necessary equipment to test the integrity of concrete (mechanically, electrically and ultrasonically) and to measure vibrations in buildings and structures by means of seismographic equipment.

SEMOS Mine at Sadiola in Mali (2015)

The development of a master plan road and stormwater infrastructure maintenance strategy for 150km of gravel roads for SEMOS Mine at Sadiola in Mali was successfully completed and handed over to SEMOS at the end of March 2015.

Sasol Natref Phase 1 (2014)

Civil and structural services (stormwater, firewater, sewer and water) for workshop with 15 ton overhead crane, stores with double storey office block, double storey administrative block, fire station, training centre, canteen, guardhouse permit office, new parking bays and road improvements for Natref, Sasolburg.

Transnet P & ID Drawings for Water System in the Port of Richards Bay (2014)

LNW was appointed by Transnet Port Terminals to engage in a reliable, comprehensive and cost effective assessment, drafting service and report pertaining to all water systems in the Richards Bay Terminals, Transnet Port terminals (TPT), Port of Richards Bay.

What was required was an on-site assessment and detailed drawings of all piping systems, all control points, isolation valves, ring feeds, network (length and diameter), metering systems, and tap offs and pipe materials to then be developed for the following systems:

Fire systems

  • Municipal fed (TNPA) hydrants and hose reels.
  • 6 series sheds – pressurised system.
  • 7 series sheds – pressurised system.
  • Bulk plant – pressurised system.

Potable water

  • Municipal feed (TNPA) for all buildings and sheds.
  • Municipal feed (TNPA) for the woodchip operation.
  • Pressurised system for the galleries at the Bulk Plant.

Recycled water

  • Pressurised system fed from the recycled water plant at DBT, this water is used for the washing of the conveyor belts, plant equipment and galleries.

Orica Mining Services Kibali DRC – Explosive Plant Construction and Commissioning (2014)

LNW was tasked with the project management for the explosive plant installation at the DRC for Orica Mining Services. An engineer was based on site for the duration of the construction and commissioning of the plant.

Upgrade of Cronimet Plant and Tunnel (2013)

LNW was appointed by Cronimet Chrome Mining to engage in certain work which required the remediation of a Chrome Beneficiation Plant where certain design, fabrication, and rectifications were necessary. LNW was asked to develop this project further to the extent that it would enhance and further its interests. LNW assisted Cronimet by making certain know-how, information, designs, and developed procedures available for this project.

Design of Shiploading Facility for Base Titanium

LNW and Syralco in co-operation with WSP Coastal completed the design of a shiploading facility for Base Titanium in the Port of Mombassa, Kenya in 2013.
