LNW Consulting Engineers and Project Managers has been supplying cutting-edge electrical engineering services for more than 30 years. Our electrical design services are deployed in high voltage (HV), medium-voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) electrical installations supported by emergency standby and uninterrupted power systems (UPS) and networks. Our conventional range are being harnessed by commercial and industrial operations. This is in addition to healthcare centres, hospitals and clinics, as well as educational facilities. We also provide electrical engineering solutions for building management, communication, fire detection and security and access control services. The above are complemented by our lighting design solutions. We are able to design the most cost-effective long-term lighting solution for all our clients. Considering the rising cost of electricity, energy efficiency has become top priority for all operations. Certainly, sustainability is also another prime motivator for reducing energy consumption. Our skills and experience in the field span public, area, street, highway, high-mast, building, aerodrome and sport field lighting.
We also specialize in earthing and lightning protection solutions to ensure the safe operation of all systems with limited risk.
LNW Consulting Engineers and Project Managers also provides electrical engineering services for heavy industry. Our clients operate in the mining, manufacturing, food and commodities processing, as well as beneficiation sectors. This is in addition to the bulk-materials handling; coal, paper, pulp and woodchip; as well as fertiliser industries. Our electrical engineering skills and expertise have been deployed successfully in water- and wastewater treatment, water purification and sewage-treatment plants. This is in addition to industrial co-generation and renewable energy, as well as solar and wind energy installations. Moreover, LNW Consulting Engineers and Project Managers is providing quality electrical engineering solutions for solar and diesel-generator power systems.
We are also knowledgeable in system, as well as SCADA and PLC system integration. Furthermore, LNW Consulting Engineers and Project Managers designs power supply systems and develops motor control centres with motor drives of up to 11kV. We also have experience designing field instrumentation and equipment control systems.
LNW Consulting Engineers and Project Managers’ professional electrical engineering services include certifying that electrical infrastructure and installations comply with statutory requirements. This service is offered as part of annual and periodic inspections of electrical infrastructure and installations. Refer to the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1993 and the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996: https://www.gov.za/documents/mine-health-and-safety-acthe and https://www.gov.za/sites/default/files/gcis_document/201409/act85of1993.pdf. These inspections are also required by insurance companies to renew fire insurance policies. Using infrared technology, we inspect electrical switchboards and high-voltage distribution equipment, as well as motors and corresponding controllers, transformers and control panels. This technique is extremely effective in preventing system failures and electrical fires by identifying “hot connections” on switchgear. Notably, the technology enables you to better plan and schedule your maintenance programmes, as opposed to adopting a reactionary approach. Moreover, regular inspections using infrared technology enable you to establish a baseline for direction of premature equipment failure, attendance and timeous replacement. The technology is also more precise than physical inspections which are limited to the approximate methods used. Infrared and photographic surveys can be ortho-rectified and combined with geographic-information systems. This greatly enhances the effectiveness of continued predictive/preventative maintenance programmes. Our technicians are able to use this information to locate and document where problems occur. “Trending” this information enables owners to prioritise areas that require urgent attention early enough to prevent a failure. The tools that we use for these case assessments include aerial photographic surveys and mapping, as well as aerial infrared thermography and mapping. This is in addition to handheld thermographic scanning and recording; underground services detection; and 3D scanning equipment.
Our electrical engineers are asset integrity management experts. These skills and experiences are complemented by our in-depth knowledge of installation compliance and equipment audits. This is in addition to task observations, maintenance training and safety working procedures. We are also known for the quality of our safety, fatal-risk and re-engineering studies, as well as maintenance outsourcing, management and strategic planning. Moreover, we are able to undertake risk and failure investigations, as well as modelling and reconstruction. Notably, LNW Consulting Engineers and Project Managers has developed sophisticated analytical models and evaluation protocols to assess and compare inspection fieldwork. These techniques are also used to survey results against the original design and operational and maintenance plans. This informs our recommended installation maintenance and repairs programmes. In addition to our focus on existing infrastructure, we help clients to repurpose or redevelop old installations in line with newly amended safety regulations and legislation. We are a positioned as a single point of contact for the development of routine inspection and strategic repair programmes. This is considering our vast knowledge that also encompasses other industrial infrastructure with its electrical installations.
